Friday Fittie - Missy Peregrym

This a new feature of my redesigned blog. Once a week I will profile an female in TV, she will most likely be an attractive female, hence the name "Friday Fittie".

This week it is 27 year old Reaper star, Missy Peregrym. Shes got strange look but I think she's pretty fit what do you think.

Missy or Melissa is Canadian, born in Montreal and grew up in the British Columbia. Like most actresses she started off in modelling and advertising and then moved on to a number of guest roles and roles in smaller TV shows. I would say she became more widely known once she gained a role on cult show, Heroes. Missy played copycat, Candice Wilmer working for then bad guy, Lindermann.

Once that role ended she landed the role of Andi on Reaper which is sadly currently airing its final season on E4. Shame about that show, I thought it was quite good and easy for a lot of 18-24 year olds to relate to, being stuck in the middle of school and real life.

No worry though Missy fans, she will be back in new Toronto based show, Copper. Missy will be playing Andy McNally, newly graduated cop and daughter of a homicide detective. The show will be on ABC in the US and CTV in Canada but with no UK pickup as of yet. More about this show will be posted here once it is known so don't forget to subscribe!

True Blood Starts Tomorrow!

Vampires haven’t really graced our screen since Buffy the Vampire Slayer finished in 2003. But it seems that Vampires are sexy again primarily due to the Twilight book and film series. This has caused many others to jump on the bandwagon and create vampire related TV shows and movies.

One of these is HBO show True Blood premiering on satellite and cable channel FX tomorrow at 10pm. The show is in its second season in the US so it is pretty difficult to avoid spoilers in a world so easily connected and as I haven’t seen any episodes yet either, I will be trying to keep the spoilers out of this.

The creator of the show is Alan Ball, also creator of Six Feet under and it is based on novels by Charlaine Harris.

Usually vampires are vicious, merciless killers but thanks to the invention of synthetic blood, branded Tru Blood, by a Japanese scientist, Vampires no longer need to feed on humans and so can live among them civilly. The show is set in a small town in Louisiana, Bon Temps where most of the citizens are sceptical of the vampires. One citizen, local barmaid, Sookie Stackhouse is intrigued by the vampires and can relate to feeling of being a outcast due to the fact that she can read people's thoughts. She becomes acquainted with one vampire, 173 year old Bill and is drawn into a series of mysteries and events that may change her life.

Of course as we’ve seen in other shows vampires can never be friendly as they are basically soulless monsters so will be interesting to see if they really can live as part of communities and will any of them pay any prices for their past crimes.

According to forums and comments I’ve read this show deserves it’s 10pm post watershed time slot with lots of gory and sexy scenes.

I’m particularly looking forward to this show, I was an avid fan of Buffy and Angel and was very impressed by the Twilight film and am now listening to the audiobooks so hopefully this will be as good.

BBC's New Autumn Schedule

BBC has announced its new autumn schedule. One that I’m looking forward to is the Doctor Who special leading up to the two Christmas specials before Matt Smith takes over. The episode is called Waters of Mars with Lindsey Duncan starring as the Doctor’s companion. If you want to see a preview clip of this, see Thursday’s post where there is a link.

Gavin and Stacey is also returning with its third and sadly final season. In it Gavin starts his new job and moves to Barry Island, while Smithy struggles to cope with the loss of his friend and new-found fatherhood. I love this show, especially seeming I live about 10 miles from Barry Island. Their parody of Barry residents isn’t that far from the truth. I hope it’s as funny as the others

QI is also returning, with super intelligent Stephen Fry, for 16 episodes for the 8^th season of the show. This is another good show, where you always learn something that you thought you already knew. Causes a lot of arguments in the pub quiz!

Criminal justice is returning also with another five part season. Maxine Peake stars as a depressed Juliet Miller whose psychological condition is questioned in court.

Unfortunately Strictly Come Dancing is also returning for its seventh season. Apparently it has received as massive revamp and with two new judges, Alesha Dixon and Darcey Bussell, with Arlene Phillips given the boot.

Other good shows returning are Spooks, stand up series Live at the Apollo and Friday Night with Jonathan Ross.

Also returning is not funny at all, Graham Norton. Being as crude as you possibly can is not funny, only certain people can pull this off and Graham Norton is not one of them.

The dire Saturday game show, Hole in the wall is also returning along with the slightly better Total Wipeout.

The BBC has also commissioned a number of new series.

One that I’m particularly looking forward to is Paradox. A scientist sees into the future and sees a crime carried out and then he and DI Rebecca Flint must go about trying to stop it happen. Ok the storyline line sounds extremely similar to Minority Report but still it looks interesting. Unfortunately they have signed up Tazmin Outhwaite to play the Detective, not the best actress in the world, so let’s hope she doesn’t ruin an otherwise promising show.

Speaking of bad actresses the BBC has got Amanda Holden staring in a new comedy, about a circus, called Big Top. Holden plays the ring mistress struggling to hold the circus together. I find it highly unlikely that I’ll be watching this.

Jon Culshaw is returning with a new impressions show along with Debra Stephenson. There hasn’t been one of these on the TV for a while so hopefully this will be worth watching!

Yet another comedy celebrity panel show, What’s On TV, with Fern Britton and Jason Manford as team captains and Steve Jones as the host. As the title suggests it will be a TV trivia quiz. I’ll probably watch it, could be quite funny.

Another show, which to me sounds a lot like creature comforts. Basically actual clips of animals are voiced over by celebrities. It is called Walk on the Wild side.

Other new shows that I have no particular interest in either way.

Garrow's Law
This Georgian legal drama, which features New Tricks' Alun Armstrong, delves into the corruption and social injustice at London's Old Bailey in the eighteenth century.

Framed
An unusual misunderstanding plays a pivotal part in this family drama, an adaption of the best-selling children's novel. The show, which is set in Wales, stars Torchwood actress Eve Myles.

Emma (Shocking, a period drama on the BBC, this is unheard of ?!)
Jane Austen's period drama is adapted by Bafta-winning writer Sandy Welch and stars Johnny Lee Miller (Eli Stone), veteran award-winning actor Michael Gambon and Robert Bathurst (Cold Feet).

Material Girl
Ali Redcliffe, played by Sugar Rush's Leonora Crichlow, sets out to make a name for herself in the world of fashion design but gets more than she bargains for when her evil ex-boss sets out to stop her.

Small Island
Another adaption, this time of Andrea Levy's award-winning novel, follows the love story of couple determined to pursue their dreams against all odds. The show stars Survivors' John Alexander and Endgame's Paula Milne.

Yvonne Strahovski - Hot!!

I was watching some old episodes of Chuck last night and could not get over how hot this woman is, who agrees with me. Also she is australian yet puls off an american accent pretty well. Listen to her interviews she has a full on 'G'day mate' Australian accent. Zachary Levi (Chuck) is so bloody lucky getting to do love scenes with her. The show's director knows what he is doing to by putting her in her underwear at least once an episode.

Torchwood: Children of the Earth: Day One

Who watched the new torchwood this evening? How awesome was it? First of all a bit gutted that there are only 5 episodes this Season instead of the usual 13 but at least it's on this year unlike Doctor Who.

Straight away you can see it's not the same without Owen and Tosh but that's not a bad thing, the show is different but is still just as good.

I liked the in jokes they threw in for the Welsh, like the "What's Occuring?" catchphrase used by Gwen, the range rover getting stolen in Cardiff despite it's high tech security system and Gwen insulting England as she crossed the severn bridge.

The banter between Ianto and Jack was quite funny what with them debating their couple status and the general awkwardness that seemed to be between them.

The children stopped and screaming and speaking simultaneously was of course the main part of the episode and this freaked me out, but then most children do.

In the subplot the government issuing a mysteriuous 'clean sheet' which I am still not completely sure what it is but it seems that it means that Torchwood has to be killed. They have attempted to kill Jack Harkness by planting a bomb in his stomach. Clearly he will be back tomorrow so this won't have worked.

Another revelation revealed in the episode is the fact that Gwen in pregnant, told to her by the old man and confirmed by the machine thingy in the hub. How is this going to effect her torchwood career? I guess we will get some answers tomorrow and throughout the week, one of the advantages of this type of scheduling, hardly any wait between episodes.
